Bible Question: I am confused on the difference between Jehovah and YHWH. I notice the KJ translates Jehovah but the NIV and other translations use Lord. Why is this and what is correct. Is Jehovah God's name? |
Bible Answer: Jehovah and YHWH are the same. Yhwh is Hebrew and Jehovah is the English equivalent. It is kind of like John and Juan. To the Jews YHWH was sacred and they never said it aloud. So when ever a Hebrew would come to the word Jehovah or YHWH while reading the Bible publicly they would say the word Lord or adoni. So while Jehovah is the true form of the word given the historical contest Lord is not wrong. |
