Bible Question: in study of God word many use the terms contradiction and paradox, what is the different between the two |
Bible Answer: Ford, Contadiction is to literally "speak against" or oppose, sometime a statement that seems to oppose itself. Paradox is a statement contrary to common belief or a statementr that seems contradictory, unbelievable or absurd but is actually true in fact. For example, God is all Just and all Merciful. He is too strict, but also too forgiving. Often times in discussing Jesus a person on one day will say Jesus was too strcit in His moral demands, usually to strict for themself. On another day the same person will say Jesus is too merciful, usually too merciful to someone else. In the Gospels Jesus often found Himself accused of of opposite traits by the same opposition in different situations. Most people want justice for their grievences, until they find themselves in the position of having harmed someone else and justice is being demanded by their victim. Then they call for mercy.
