Bible Note: GodsWord4me I have a problem with the answer for question number 4. Saul was in fact the first king of Israel. Abimelech was a judge. He and the men of Shechem and Bethmilo tried to raise him up as king. Judges 9:6 Verses 9:7-21 tell of Jotham telling them it was a bad idea and actually speaking a curse should they contunue which they did. Verse 22 does say Abimelelch ruled (as a judge) over Israel but in fact he never gained full support nor was he recognized as king and was killed/suicide three years later. Those three years were very bloody and filled with much turmoil. In fact the very men that tried to make him king were the ones that lead to his downfall and death. Bible scholars recognize Saul as the first king of Israel. EdB |
