Bible Question: Is the Amplified bible a version of the bible? |
Bible Answer: The Amplified Bible is a version of the Bible as are all translations that we use. It is very helpful in that it expounds on words that suffer from anachronism and as words change from one translation to another they lose their intended meaning. A good example would be the word pisteuo in the Greek. Most versions of the Bible use the English word believe, but that one word in the English doesn’t even come close to what the full meaning of the word pisteuo in the Koine Greek meant. The Amplified Bible actually amplifies the English to the meaning of the original language, and most of the time it can’t be done with one word. It is a very helpful study aid for one who wants a deeper understanding yet doesn’t have the time to delve into Hebrew and Greek of the original manuscripts. |
