Bible Question:
I just read "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" and "I Gave Dating a Chance" both written by equally good authors, but they really don't satisfy what I was looking for, so I took it upon myself to write a book persay. I want to accurately protray what I want, and feel, but I am having trouble getting anything that remotely relates to relationships/dating out of the Bible as in scripture verses, can anyone help me? I am also interested in protraying a variety of view points, and if you are at all the least bit interested let me know and I will somehow find a way to thank you. It is in my perception, however, that dating really isn't a bad thing... unless actions, or speech or mannerisms become an abomination to God. Holding hands, kissings and other DA's are really no problem to Him, as far as I know, as long as it doesn't go too far. But, I suppose those limits are up to man (and woman) to come up with. On a completely unrelated topic, what do you all think of women pastors? |
Bible Answer: Disclaimer: the following is MY subjective answer. I do not present it as Bible doctrine or church dogma. The following is not a discussion of bare facts, but of a modern social custom. I am not taking a rigid stand, merely expressing my opinion, which I have labeled as opinion. Also, let me make it clear that I am not here discussing "a date" in isolation. Nor am I talking about what people do on "a date." I am talking more about dating relationships than I am a date here and a date there. I haven't a thing against Christians dating according to Christian principles. What I seriously question is the entire body of dating culture and customs as the world understands and practices them, especially the world's questionable practice (from the biblical viewpoint) of an excessive number of serial or multiple dating partners before marriage. Is this REALLY proper or adequate preparation for "Christian" marriage? I am not entirely against dating. But I seriously question the suitability for Christians of the dating "game" as played by the world. I don't believe God called us to play shopping games with relationships. For thousands of years there was no dating culture. People managed to meet, marry and raise a family without benefit of modern dating customs. Dating is a VERY, VERY recent custom in the history of mankind. |
