Subject: Is speaking in tongues for today? |
Bible Note: Dear Biynah, I'm an old fashioned kind of christian. I require scriptural support for all I believe. Frankly, purely subjective evidence leaves me cold. Anyone can claim anything they want. So what? What is that to me? I demand proof from God's Word alone. That Word, illuminated by the Holy Spirit to the mind of a believer, is all that we need for edification, doctrine and holy living. Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may PROVE what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. James 1:22 But PROVE yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 2Ti 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. You wrote: "I know the Word of God because the Holy Spirit has revealed it to me because of constant seeking and humbleness of spirit. The Holy Spirit also gave unto me a gift of discernment. I know truth from falsehood. And I am bold to proclaim the truth or expose a lie. I have proclaimed to you that I have seen the lie. This I know for certain. I have asked God the same thing. Is speaking in tongues for today? His answer to me is that he will not glorify man. But he will honor the humble in spirit who seek to glorify Him." Fogive me for saying so but, it sounds more like pride than humility to me. No one but God is right all the time, including you and me! John |
