Bible Answer: Hi thedove, Welcome to the forum. You can receive a lot of answers here and some will be more meaningful than others. I hope that I can say something about this that is worthwhile. As I get older, I think of the old song with the words, "You don't have to cross Jordan alone." I'll give you some verses that I feel would give meaning to a crossing like the song often used at funerals I would suppose, where we are thinking of crossing into the promised land of heaven. These suggested verses are showing how God is with us and doing the work for us as we cross over. Joshua 3:5, "Then Joshua said to the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." Joshua 3:11, "Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over ahead of you into the Jordan." Joshua 4:10, "For the priests who carried the ark were standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything was completed that the Lord had commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua. And the people hurried and crossed;..." Joshua 4:23, "For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the Lord your (God) had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed;..." Joshua 1:15 speaks of how He gives you rest and will give you a land. Exodus 14:27, "So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it; then the (Lord) overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea." Here again we see that God is with us to fight for us and to lead us across. Be comforted to know that God will fight for us as He fought against the Egyptians at the Red Sea and will be with us as we cross the Jordan Sea into the promised land. From the heart, Ray |
