Bible Question:
EdB My point is. If cremation is for the believer, why do I not find a single Bibical example of a godly person choosing cremation over burial. Most replys I have read in here concerning this topic say it does not matter whether one chooses cremation or burial. My contention is, what scriptural examples do we have for our practice as believers. I see evidence in Scripture that the godly preferred burial. So my next question would be, why burial and not cremation? |
Bible Answer: Notice I did not maintain your logic and respond that flying planes wasn’t chosen by any in the Bible so we then know we are not to fly. You next question why burial and not cremation? Probably the most obvious answer, wood was hard to come by in most areas of Biblical times. Burial would be the most expeditious way to dispose of bodies. I really don’t think the practice among followers of God saw cremation as a matter of honoring or dishonoring the body. Tradition, situation, and circumstance dictated how the body was disposed of. In some cultures cremation was seen as a way to dishonor but in other it is seen as the most honorable. Here in this country there isn’t any social stigma with either and as far as I know only a few people on this forum find it abhorrent. As I said before if you have a problem then by all means be buried. For those of us that have no problem we can do either. Again what you do with this earth suit when I lay it down doesn’t bother me one way or another. EdB |
