Bible Question: What does the bible mean when it says to "honor" your father and mother? I am married to a man - his father and mother have treated us terribly by making false accusations against us, telling lies to the entire family about us and getting them to believe all of their lies (and turn on us), talking to us in a disgraceful way, etc. These people are all Christians. What does it mean to "honor" parents who act this way (gossip, spread rumors, lie about us)? |
Bible Answer: searchingfortruth29 First what are they lying about? Is it an intentionaly lie or is there a misunderstanding? In any case no one should backbite or gossip. However they are your husband's parents and they should have a place of honor in both your live's if for no other reason than they conceived your husband. Remember God is your vindicator and it is God that will seek revenge. Be like David with Saul, David had every right to defend himself but he didn't. David allowed God to defend him. God was able to honor David because David honored God's word and honored Saul. I know this is a little different of a situation but the principal still applies. Let God set the record straight just do what God asks and honor your mother and father and your husband's also. EdB |
