Bible Question: I was just on a forum about tattoos(I was looking for Sponge Bob things for my daughter and this forum came up). On it was a lot of harsh words but I did get something out of it and now I am wondering about a certain verse. The verse is Revelation 19:16. I have read it in the John MacArthur's NKJV Study Bible and my Life Application NIV Study Bible. It talks about The "King Of Kings and Lord Of Lords" title on his robe and on his thigh. The NKJV calls it a banner. On the other forum, they are calling it a tattoo. I have been telling my almost 16 year old that Jesus wouldn't want us to put tattoos on our bodies. I really didn't think things like tattoos excisted that far. So, what I am asking is that someone could tell me a little bit more, please. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Baileybear! The word used in Rev. 19:16 is simply the verb 'to write'. The verse does not specify how it was written or with what it was written - just that it was written on His garment and on His thigh. Thus, it would be unfounded speculation to say that it was a tattoo or that it wasn't a tattoo! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
