Bible Question: CAN SOMEONE ANSWER MY QUESTION ON LEGAL DRINKING? IS THERE ANYTHING IN THE BIBLE THAT SPECIFICALLY SAYS NOT TO? HELP ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. |
Bible Answer: I believe that the Bible does not forbid legal drinking, but is strongly against drinking so much as to be drunk: Luke 21:34 "Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; Acts 2:15 "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; Rom 13:13 Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. 1 Cor 5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. 1 Cor 6:10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Eph 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 1 Pet 4:3 For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries. |
