Bible Question:
I am trying to put a list together of the similarities between Moses and Jesus. Some are: Both were a mediator between God and man. Both did great miracles never done before. Both went for 40 days and nights without food and water. Both changes the systems of sacrifices and introduced new rituals. Both of them changes the priesthood. Both were shepherds. Both had unusual cradles and a Miriam (Mary) to watch over them. Both of them escaped the slaughter of babies. Both of them gave up riches and kingdoms to be a servant. Both became servants in order to free the people. Bothe were men of the greatest faith and deep prayer. And at the time: No one recognized their gratness. The people were slaves (Moses time slaves to Pharoah, Jesus time slave to sin and Herod's taxes). The people always wanted more. The people wanted to stone and kill them. Can you please give me more similarities? Thank you. prayon |
Bible Answer: Prayon, Great list going. I would echo Ray's comments that the differences should also be mentioned. One good way to illustrate this may be by the following passage, which compares and contrasts Moses and Jesus: John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Actually there are many passages which relate Jesus to Moses. Moses hidden in the cleft of the Rock, Moses' prayer brings water from the Rock, etc. The only additional similarities that come to mind is that both were known for humility, both assembled 70 elders/disciples (also each led 12 tribes/12 apostles), and both were called out of Egypt: Numbers 12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) John 13:5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Numbers 11:16 ¶And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee. Luke 10:1 ¶After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Hosea 11:1 ¶When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt. Matthew 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Listener |
