Bible Question: I HOLD A BIBLE STUDY EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT AT MY HOUSE AND ONE OF THE DISCUSSIONS WE HAD WAS, "IF JESUS EXPERIENCED EVERY TEMPTATION AND HAS BEEN THRU EVERY STORM, (WHICH I BELIEVE HE HAS), THEN WAS HE EVER MARRIED OR IS IT BETTER TO NOT MARRY?" I KNOW THE PASSAGE OF IF YOU MUST TAKE A WIFE, DO SO, BUT IN THE BEGINNING GOD SAID IT IS NOT GOOD FOR MAN TO BE ALONE. WAS HE JUST TALKING ABOUT EDEN? |
Bible Answer: I think that the verse that must be in question is found in Hebrews. Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. The verse doesn't say all situations, it says all points. We must remember that temptation isn't a sin unless given into. I John tells us that there are three way by which we can be tempted that are a part of the world system. 1 John 2:15-16 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. The three ways pointed out here are lust of flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. You can see that Satan knew these and used them on Jesus in the book of Matthew when Christ went through his great temptation. See if you can pick out these three in the following verses? Matthew 4:1-11 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. In these verses alone Christ was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin. Actually when we commit personal sin it all starts through one of the three categories. Notice also the way that Jesus combats the temptation, through the knowledge of, and use of God's word. 1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. This doesn't say that God is going to take the temptation away but that we will be able to bear it the same way Christ did. 2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. I hope this helps, CDBJ |
