Subject: Shroud OK? |
Bible Note: Searcher, your view on the potential for the Shroud of Turin to become an object of worship is one that I share without reservation. Whether it is ever proved to be genuine or whether a hoax is of little consequence in comparison to its potential danger of leading well-meaning believers into the idolatry of worshiping a piece of rotten cloth...... In close connection with this, it is a fact that none of the original Bible manuscripts (autographs) are known to exist. The oldest manuscripts that are extant are merely copies of copies. In an article on translation that I read recently, the writer advanced the view that in a sense it is a very good thing that the originals are no longer around, because if they were they would be held in such awe so as to become themselves objects of worship and thus idols. --Hank |
