Bible Question: How do you know you are spiritual dying? |
Bible Answer: Yogi, Is there sin that you are not dealing with? The Bible teaches that through Christ our sins are forgiven. And we know that we all still sin. So although sin is forgiven it still affects our lives if we don’t deal with it (repent). We can see in Corinth that sexual immorality was a problem the church was facing. Ask yourself, can one continue to sin in such a way and not suffer consequences? Sin in any form will harden our hearts towards God. That may be what you call “spiritually dying”. A reference in Hebrews makes this clear: “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.” Heb. 3:12-14 That’s the harsh reality, but the flip side to that is that God gives us grace to help us in our daily battle with sin. “ Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Eph. 6:10-18 Being vulnerably open with brothers about our sin and being held accountable by them helps us in our daily spiritual battle. Walk in the light (John 3:19-21), Satan hates light. It will keep our hearts soft and our burdens light. Kin |
