Bible Question: I HAVE A FRIEND, WHO AFTER 21 YEARS OF MARRIAGE, HAS BEEN CAUGHT CHEATING ON HIS WIFE. HE HAS ASKED ME HOW I BELIEVE THE BIBLE INTERPRETS THIS. HE BELIEVES THE WIFE WILL ASK FOR A DIVORCE. IS IT A SIN TO DIVORCE? SHOULD THEY DIVORCE IF THE BIBLE SAYS NO? IF THEY DO CAN HE OR SHE MARRY AGAIN? |
Bible Answer: OLD COACH, this all covered if you type "divorce" under Quick Search and then press the [Serach] button. She can ask for a divorce, according to Matt 19 and Mark 10, which came from Deut 24. God granted this because of the hardness of the heart, of the wife in this case. 1Cor 7 deals with the subject, too. God says no. So it is up to them to choose. 1Cor 7 also deals with remarriage, and since they are both Christians, the answer is no. I think, the bottom line is for you friend to try to reconcile marriage ... he needs ask for her forgiveness and the other women, even family ... He needs to have an accountabilty partner, who will check on him often ... they need to go to wise Christian counsel. We need to pray for him, his wife and the other woman and her family. Steve |
