Bible Question:
I have been discussing the bible with a very nice Jehovah's witness woman. I care about her salvation. I have read a few books about the witnesses so I have a basic understanding of the differences in our bible interpretation. However she posses questions to me that are derived from such a strange interpretation that I feel quite overwhelmed. Sometimes I feel that were making progress only to take two steps back. Currently we are discussing; the covenant, who goes to heaven, the new heaven and new earth. She believes that only the apostles who took the first communion with Christ and a few select others are in the new covenant, and they are the only ones going to heaven. To rationalize this belief she says, "the ones going to heaven will be rulers and whom shall they be ruling over if everyone goes to heaven?" If anyone has any advise on how to approach this I would appreciate it so much. I know this is a spiritual battle,I covet your prayers. Blessings, Jen |
Bible Answer: I would like to recommend some resources that are very helpful in answering the false doctrines of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Hank Hanegraaf, host of the Bible Answer Man radio program, is president of the Christian Research Institute (CRI). CRI exists, in part, for the purpose of equipping Christians with the information they need to answer the claims of the cults. Their website is a good place to start when looking for answers to the JWs. The link is: www.equip.org At equip.org click on "Free Articles" and then enter "Jehovah's Witnesses" or "Watchtower" in the search field. Here is another excellent website for answering the cults. It is Darkness to Light Theology, Apologetics, Cults, Ethics, Bible Versions, and much more! The website is: www.dtl.org/index.html A third reference is a book which is very helpful in dealing with the cults. It is "Baker Topical Guide to the Bible" by Walter A. Elwell, Baker Books, 1991. (Available to purchase online from www.christianbook.com or amazon.com or at your local Christian bookstore.) It is both thorough and easy to use. For example, if a JW comes to your door and denies the Deity of Christ, this book gives you the full verses (19 pages of them in double columns) affirming the Deity of Christ. I emphasize that the book includes, not mere scripture references which you have to look up, but each verse written out in full. --JVH0212 |
