Bible Question:
Revelation chp 7 vs 9-18 mentions a numerous multitude of saints with white robes worshipping God. It says these saints have "come out of the tribulation." Does this refer to believers who were martyred during the tribulation? My study guide says it may be the church which is raptured but if that is so why does it say, vs14: "They have COME OUT OF the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb." ps. Notes in my NIV study Bible says these may be Christians martyred during the tribulation but if that is the case, then why are they mentioned separately from the martyred souls who are crying out under the alter alter in chp 6 verse 9? |
Bible Answer: Chusarcik, 144,000 is a symbolic number, which can mean an infinite number, with particular significance to Israel, Old and New. So you see the 24 elders, as in 12 patriarchs of the twelve tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles, Rev 4:4. The infinite 144,000 is 12 x 12 x 1,000. We would use a an eight laid on its side, but that doesn't make for very dramatic reading, especially if you are reading out loud to a Church assembly. The multitude are the elect. Emmaus |
