Bible Question: What does it mean in Rev 5:10 about the 144,000 men and then again in Rev 7:4,9 about the meek...2 different groups of people....is this referring to that there has already been chosen 144,000 men from Jesus' time that are the only ones to make it to heaven?? and does this mean that the meek will inherit the earth but will never be in heaven?? but will be on eart in the New Kingdom?? I am confused by the meaning. One relgion says this and another doesn't. |
Bible Answer: Hi Lory, Revelation 5:10 is from the song sung by the 24 elders, who are seated around God's throne. The 144,000 have not been introduced into Scripture yet at this point. Revelation 7:3-8 introduces the 144,000 sealed Jews. These are the firstfruits, or those first saved, from the Seventieth Week of Daniel (compare with ch 14). Rev. 7:9 introduces yet a different group, who is suddenly appearing in heaven as the 144,000 are being sealed on earth. This innumerable multitude is, I believe, the newly raptured church. These will return to earth with Jesus at the end of the final 7 years, to live upon the earth with the faithful remnant of Israel, and those who survived the tribulation and judgment. So there are the 24 elders around the throne in heaven. No information is given about who these are, or what will become of them. There are the 144,000 sealed Jews. These are saved and protected at the beginning of the Seventieth Week (the "Tribulation" as it is commonly called). These will join with Jesus before the throne in heaven half-way through the Seventieth Week, and will apparently return with Jesus at its end, to live with Him upon the earth. There is the innumerable multitude. These are in heaven, and will go where the lamb goes, and so will return with Him to the earth. There will also be those martyred during the Seventieth Week. These will be resurrected at the end of the final 7 years. One thing to remember is that Jesus will rule upon the earth for 1000 years, and the faithful will be with Him. In the eternal state, God and faithful man will live together, in an existance apparently both heavenly and earthly at once. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions concerning this. Love in Christ, Mark |
