AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 3:7 ¶ "And to the angel (divine messenger) of the church in Philadelphia write: "These are the words of the Holy One, the True One, He who has the key [to the house] of David, He who opens and no one will [be able to] shut, and He who shuts and no one opens: [Is 22:22] |
Bible Question: Where in the story of David does it mention the "Key of David" and if it is not in the story why does in appear in Isaiah and Revelation? |
Bible Answer: Hi valleygirl521, I haven't found the key of David in his story. But when something appears in a couple of place then I compare them. I see the references as pointing out the contrast between the power that man has and what God has. I see the difference between what "he" does in Isaiah 22:22 and what the Holy Spirit says and does in Revelation 3:7. Job 12 is another reference in a study bible. Allow me, please, to put parentheses where I think the comparisons should be. I think of these here as contrasts. Isaiah 22:22, "Then (I) will set the key of the house of David on his shoulder, When he opens no one will shut, When he shuts no one will open. And I will drive him like a peg in a firm place, And he will become a throne of glory to his father's house." Revelation 3:6, "'He who has an ear, let him hear what the (Spirit) says to the churches.' And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says this: 'I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power,...'" Job 12:6, "The tents of the destroyers prosper, And those who provoke God are secure, [he who brings (God) into his hand]. Whom (God) brings into their power." Job 12:7, "But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you; And the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you. Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you; And let the fish of the sea declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this, In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind*. I hope that you see that there is no question that everything is in God's hand. I hope you see the contrast between what "he" does and what "we" do with our little power, when we compare it to the things that "He" does in Job 12:14ff. He who is holy and true, who has the key of David has the ability to drive us, also, like a peg in a firm place, for the hand of the Lord has done it. From the heart, Ray |
