Bible Question: I am writing an exegetical paper on John's letter to the church at Laodicea. I am having a really hard time coming up with solid material to study and was wondering if anyone could help me with either a good source, or even some personal reflection as to what the passage means. It would be of great help! Thanks! |
Bible Answer: This is what I learned from my Bible study--Laodicea was a wealthy center of commerce; its citizens specialized in the production of woolen goods. Its medical shool was famous for its eye ointment. It also boasted a bubbling hot springs a few miles from town. The people managed to pipe the water into the city, but it was sickeningly lukewarm by the time it got to their homes. This church represents the time period in which we are living. It is pictured as a church of compromise, neither hot nor cold. |
