NASB | Revelation 20:4 ¶ Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 20:4 ¶ And then I saw thrones, and sitting on them were those to whom judgment [that is, the authority to act as judges] was given. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had refused to worship the beast or his image, and had not accepted his mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. [Dan 7:9, 22, 27] |
Bible Question: what happens when you die? |
Bible Answer: skow: Are you asking what happens in general to everyone when they die? Or what happens to those who are saved by the grace of God? As a partial answer, in Revelations we see what will happen to those in the tribulation: Rev 20:4 "Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus, for proclaiming the word of God. And I saw the souls of those who had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. They came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.) 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years." Since it says the rest of the dead will not rise until after the 1000 years, I believe this means they are in a state of 'rest', or the sleep of the dead until the great day of Judgement (would love other opinions on this). Rev 20:11 "And I saw a great white throne, and I saw the one who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God's throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to the things written in the books, according to what they had done. 13The sea gave up the dead in it, and death and the grave gave up the dead in them. They were all judged according to their deeds. 14And death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death--the lake of fire. 15And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire." I also believe there can be an exception... Elijah was taken immediately up to heaven, as was, of course, Jesus the Christ. 2 Kings 2:11 "As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between them, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven." I hope this helps! Blessings to those who follow the Christ! |
