Bible Answer: Greetings Ernie H.! Here is a little commentary on Revelation 2:27.. "2:26-27 Believers will share the millennial rule of Christ. HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON. A reference to Christ's reign on earth (see 12:5; 19:15; Ps. 2:9)." (1) "26-27: The conquerors will share in Christ's Messianic rule (Ps. 2:8-9)." (2) "2:27 rule. Lit. "shepherd" (a common metaphor for "rule"). rod of iron. Symbolic of the strength of his rule (see 12:5; 19:15)." (3) "2:27 rule them with a rod of iron. Lit. "shepherd them with an iron rod." During the millennial kingdom, Christ will enforce His will and protect his sheep with His iron scepter from any who would seek to harm them (cf. Ps. 2:8)." (4) "90tn What has been received is not specified in the Greek text, but must be supplied from the context. In the light of the two immediately preceding verses about rulership or dominion, it seems that the implied direct object of dwvsw (dwsw) is “the right to rule” (i.e., e[cein ejxousivan poimavnein, ecein exousian poimanein), although many modern translations supply the word “authority” here." (5) "..And he shall rule them with a rod of iron. A scepter of iron means a firm and enduring power. Rule. Shall rule as a shepherd is the meaning of the Greek word. The rule will not be a cruel, but a guardian rule." (6) So, to answer your questions: 1.. "He shall rule" most definitely speaks of Christ, but it is clear that the believers in Him will share in that rule. 2.. It is quite possible that "there will be a remnant of these Gentile nations that will survive the wrath of God, who "will come trembling out of their fortresses; to the Lord our God they will come in dread, and they will be afraid before Thee" (Mic. 7:17). ... Those who, in addition to surviving God's wrath, survive Christ's judgment of the nations (Matt. 25:31,32; cf. Rev. 20:4), will become the remnant of the non-Jewish nations that go into the millennial kingdom." (7) 3.. "..they shall come trembling out of their strongholds;.." *[ESV] "move out of their holes--As reptiles from their holes, they shall come forth from their hiding-places, or fortresses (Psa_18:45), to give themselves up to the conquerors. More literally, "they shall tremble from," that is, tremblingly come forth from their coverts." (8) I hope that these answers help in your study!
