Subject: The Trinity and being tormented forever |
Bible Note: Hi Towanda, What is the forever punishment of the unsaved? Here is some of what we are told: Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. 2 Thess 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Mark 9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Mark 9:47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Matt 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Matt 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, Matt 13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Over and over we are told that the wicked will burn, and we know what that feels like, at least most of us do. Fire, burning, is torment. Eternal burning is eternal torment. We can only speculate as to why this is declared to be fire. But the Bible is clear that eternal, everlasting burning is what the unsaved can expect. This may simply be God giving fallen man their final wish, as they reject God, and want nothing to do with Him. Since God is the source of light, they have no light. Since God is the source of love, they have no love. Since God is the source of comfort, they have no comfort. Since God is the source of every good thing, they have no good thing. The only place left for them is the one which God prepared for the Devil, and his angels. Does this help? Let me know. Love in Christ, Mark |
