Bible Question:
I have read a lot, seems like all, the Calvinist/Arminian arguments regarding election and still have some questions which I would greatly appreciate your response. #1 How does one know that he/she is a chosen one? #2 If one is not chosen, one does not necessarily go to hell, right? Well, where do the unchosen go after death? #3 It is His will than none should perish...but then that scripture is turned around and somehow end up in only chosen ones? #4 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Why did this verse not say the chosen ones only? #5 Is this a secondary argument and not the basis for one to leave their church? By no means do I intend to sound argumentive. Please don't "retalliate" just help me understand the two sides better. God Bless You ALL! Mylene |
Bible Answer: Matthew 22:14 "For many are called, but few are chosen." But the question is, who are chosen and why? Revelation 17:14 says those "who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful." We are chosen not by name. God didn't sit down with a big list of names and check us off Santa-style as saved and unsaved. Those who are chosen, are those who are with Jesus. Meaning God didn't choose me specifically, He chose (predestined) those who would believe in His Son as a whole. 1 Peter 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father... See? chosen by God's foreknowledge. Not randomly, but by His foreknowledge of who would accept His Son. Remember, God knew our whole lives well before we ever existed. He knew then who would accept Jesus and who would not. So to answer your questions, 1: we know we are chosen if we believe in Jesus. 2: The unchosen are those who do not accept Jesus. Unfortunately, yes, they do go to hell. 3-4: do you see how the explanation above answers this? The chosen ARE those who believe. Bless...ArtS |
