NASB | Revelation 1:8 ¶ "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 1:8 ¶ "I am the Alpha and the Omega [the Beginning and the End]," says the Lord God, "Who is [existing forever] and Who was [continually existing in the past] and Who is to come, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all]." [Is 9:6] |
Bible Question: Does anyone know why the King James translations contain the phrase "..., the beginning and the ending,..." in Rev 1:8 but NASB and other do not? |
Bible Answer: “I am the Alpha and the Omega,”[33] says the Lord God – the one who is, and who was, and who is still to come – the All-Powerful! (Rev. 1:8 New English Translation) [Footnote 33] 'The shorter reading “Omega”...has superior manuscript evidence...to the longer reading which includes “the beginning and the end”...There is little reason why a scribe would have deleted the words, but their clarifying value and the fact that they harmonize with [Rev.] 21:6 indicate that they are a secondary addition to the text.' ____________________ www.bible.org/netbible/rev1.htm |
