Bible Question:
I hope that I can find under standing with the following.I have been in a lot of churchs over the years, and a large number of then have a large picture of what they say is christ.Long blond hair and blue eyes. However reading the book of revelation 1:14-15 tells us(His head and hair were white like wool,as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in the furnace.)Now the bible also tell us NOT to ADD or take away anything thats in the word of God.So where do you find the blond hair blue eye Jesus in the bible? Second question If the church call it's self a bible believing church. How can they place a picture on the wall of there church that is not trueful of the word? |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum. You don't find that He has blonde hair and blue eyes in the bible at all. The only description of Jesus that is in the bible is in Rev. There is another verse that states something to the effect that His looks did not cause Him to stand out in a crowd but I can't find the exact verse. The language used here to describe Jesus comes from Dan 7:9 - "I watched until the thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days sat, whose robe was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool. His throne was like flames of fire, and His wheels like burning fire. The description in Rev is probably symbolic. White denotes purity and triumph, wool signifies His wisdom. Wool is commonly supposed to be an emblem of eternity. His flaming eyes signified piercing, all seeing, flashing light, and also a consuming fire of the wicked. His feet mentioned in v.15 "And his feet like fine brass" - Denoting his stability and strength. We are not necessarily to suppose that this is the form in which the Saviour always appears now in heaven, anymore than we are to suppose that God appears always in the form in which he was manifested to Isaiah Isa_6:1, to Daniel Dan_7:9, or to Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu in the mount, Exo_24:10-11 (Albert Barnes notes on the bible). Hope this helps. prayon |
