NASB | Jude 1:7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Jude 1:7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the adjacent cities, since they in the same way as these angels indulged in gross immoral freedom and unnatural vice and sensual perversity. They are exhibited [in plain sight] as an example in undergoing the punishment of everlasting fire. [Gen 19:1-29] |
Bible Question:
While also doing research on this website, I came across the word asenokoites. Which is the greek word for abusers of themselves with mankind, loosely translated as homosexuality by some. There is difference between homosexuality and rape. I believe people often point to Sodom and Gemorrah as examples, of God's disapproval of homosexuality, but in the case of Sodom, the men were literally raping other men. Paul is very specific in Romans about unatural sex (homosexuality), but in Sodom and Gemorrah aren't we talking about something very different. |
Bible Answer: Hi Journey me, Are you saying that rape was the only thing the men of Sodom were doing? Jude, in speaking of these, doesn't mention rape, just the unnatural relations. Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire. No, it is just as Leviticus says, that if a man lies with a man as a man lies with a woman it is an abomination. No matter what the circumstances, "feelings", "commitment", or whatever. Sin is sin, whether it is stealing a stick of gum or any other thing. We are to fight it, resist it, don't do it, and don't live in it. Love in Christ, Mark |
