NASB | 1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus [acknowledging that He has come in the flesh, but would deny any of the Son's true nature] is not of God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and is now already in the world. |
Bible Question: Is antichrist a spirit or an actual person? May I submit that antichrist is any spirit of person who denies the power of the risen Lord (Jesus Christ) to overcome the power of evil one and relies instead on the power of mere human beings to do what only God can do. |
Bible Answer: Hey Prazn, Are you suggesting that everyone that doesn't believe in Jesus is anti-christ?? I'm only asking because I'm not comprehending how you're defining 'spirit of person'. According to this verse in 1 John, I've always been under the impression that the 'spirit' that doesn't confess Jesus isn't the 'spirit of man', per say, but one of the third that got kicked out of heaven. The antichrist was a heavenly being, that took a third of God's angles with him when he lost his place in heaven, in this text of scripture, that third of angles are called spirits. Jesus did say something like, "if you're not with me, then you're against me." I guess in that perspective, a non-believer could quite possibly be called antichrist. Please get back with me on you're definition of 'spirit of person', because if you're referring to my worldly nature, then my first question would be do the Adversary have the ability to pour out his spirit on mankind like God does?? And from there I have a dozen others. |
