NASB | 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God's judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God's love]. |
Bible Question: Can perfect love cast out fear? |
Bible Answer: Yes. Because God is love as the book of 1Jn 4:16 makes us understand. I believe what the writer was saying is if the love of God is in us and made perfect, all fear will be driven out. Fear of condemnation and destruction. If we receive Christ, this fear is driven out (Rom 8:1). The perfect love of God comes when we read and obey His word and consistently yield to His abiding love in us. But remember in our effort we shall fail but our righteousness is of Christ . . . hence it is God who perfects us. 2Cor. 1:21 |
