NASB | 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because God's seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again--who is reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him. |
Subject: Who makes the rules? |
Bible Note: Hi John Reformed (Dad), I was just thinking on the post sent by baptistbred and about to respond when I saw that you sent this post. How funny. Anyway, your distinction makes a lot of sense. However, 1 John 3:10 gives the distinction between the children of God and the children of the devil. It is twofold: 1.) the children of the devil do not practice righteousness. That is, they clearly do not follow God's law in scripture for their lives (antinomianism) and 2.) they do not love their brother. That is, if they still despised and persecuted christians, there is no way they would be children of God. With that said, it could be clear who are children of God and children of the devil based on the two criter1a given in 1 John. Your thoughts? Elaine |
