NASB | 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing [the special gift, the preparation] which you received from Him remains [permanently] in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But just as His anointing teaches you [giving you insight through the presence of the Holy Spirit] about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as His anointing has taught you, you must remain in Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him]. |
Bible Question: I know that tithes can be paid by ones works for the Lord but most churches like for members to give monetary gifts and will use Genesis 14:20, Genesis 28:22, and Malachi 3:8-10 to justify that. Is this a true and correct justification or should they give both options of tithing? What would the Lord prefer? |
Bible Answer: Leviticus 27:30-32 (ESV) "Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord. [31] If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. [32] And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the Lord." On the authority of Scripture alone, I do not know "that tithes can be paid by one's works for the Lord." The Bible specifies the giving of one's income or property. What the Lord would prefer is for us to follow the instructions He has given to us in His Word. 'TITHE -- the practice of giving a tenth of one's INCOME or PROPERTY as an offering to God.' 'The law of Moses [Torah] prescribed tithing in some detail' (Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Nelson, 1995). (Emphasis added.) "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill" Matthew 5:17* ____________________ *Matthew 5:17 'Replacement theology likewise understands that Yeshua at his first coming fulfilled the Torah, so that we don't have to do so (the logic leading to this conclusion is unclear);' (David H. Stern, "Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel", 1988, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc.) |
