NASB | 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing [the special gift, the preparation] which you received from Him remains [permanently] in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But just as His anointing teaches you [giving you insight through the presence of the Holy Spirit] about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as His anointing has taught you, you must remain in Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him]. |
Bible Question:
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (Joh 14:26 KJVR) 1Jn 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. "Ye know all things" in what sense? Not need teachers? Please tell me what you think about these verses. |
Bible Answer: Hi, Thomas... The Holy Spirit still uses means. If you take passages like these ones out of the context of the whole teaching of Christ and the apostles, you're bound to end up confused! John 14:26 is talking about all the Christ said to the apostles (see verse 23). 1 John 2:20 is talking about the perseverance of the saints. I keep telling people to read Ephesians 4:11-18. The whole thrust of that passage is telling us that Christ gifted the church *what* (v11)? For the purpose of *what* (v12-13)? So that we won't be *what* (v14)? In Him, Doc |
