AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One [you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit], and all of you know [the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error]. |
Bible Question: You who are well versed in these things, tell me what some of these TV preachers and teachers mean by "the anointing" or "the divine anointing." What exactly are they talking about? Is there solid scriptural foundation for being "anointed" in our time? --Hank |
Bible Answer: Hi Hank, I hope you had a blessed Christmas season. The marginal note for 1John 2:20 reads "Some ancient mss read, "you know all things."" I have learned to compare the "anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things" with 1 John 5:13 which speaks to the main thing that we know and believe. 1 John 5:13, "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life." Thus, I would say that we have an anointing from the Holy One if we believe in the Son of God. And verse fourteen says that we can go on in confidence. Later, Ray |
