Bible Question: Should a preacher be revered |
Bible Answer: The dictionary defines "revered" as: "To regard with awe, deference, and devotion." It is a really difficult question to answer with that word in it, but the answer is no. You revere God, for everything good comes from heaven. In regards to preacheres, read this verse. 1 Thessalonians 5:12 Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Notice, it doesn't say, "Put those who labor among you up on a pedestal and praise them and devote yourself to them." You are to recognize them for being God's faithful tool, but in no way worship them as anything more than human. Check out this verse too: 1 Timothy 5:17 The elders who are good leaders should be considered worthy of an ample honorarium, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. |
