AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world--the lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life [pretentious confidence in one's resources or in the stability of earthly things]--these do not come from the Father, but are from the world. |
Bible Question: IN THIS CONNECTION I QUOTE MAT.C4 V8.9 IS THIS RELEVANT? |
Bible Answer: fytRobert You mentioned Matt 4:8-9, Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me." First we must understand Satan is a liar. Second was he offering the world or the splendor, adoration and a worship that the Kings of the kingdoms were presently enjoying. Scripture is clear the earth and all that is in it are the Lords. Ex 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. Ps 24:1 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. Ps 50:10-12 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. 11 I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. 12 "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. So no, I don't think the Matt 4 verse is good here, however Ia do like the Fire Bible Commentary on these verses. Satan's kingdom (12:26) is a very organized empire of evil that has authority over "the kingdom of the air" (Eph 2:2, which may simply mean he is not bound to earth), over fallen angels (i.e., those who followed Satan in rebellion against God, 25:41; Rev 12:7), over people who have not accepted Christ's forgiveness and given their lives to him (vv. 8-9; Jn 12:31; Eph 2:2) and over the present world system (Lk 4:5-6; 2Co 4:4; see 1Jn 5:19, note). Satan is not omnipresent (everywhere at the same time), omnipotent (all-powerful) or omniscient (all-knowing), so most of his activity is assigned to demons (8:28; Rev 16:13-14; see Job 1:12, note). Jesus came to earth to destroy the works of Satan (1Jn 3:8), to introduce God's kingdom (i.e., the evidence of his power, authority, purposes and way of life) and to free us from Satan's control (12:28; Lk 4:18; 13:16; Ac 26:18). By his death and resurrection, Christ paid the penalty for sin and overcame its power. This triumph began the defeat of Satan, which will reach its climax at the end of this age (see Rev 20:7-10) and will guarantee God's complete victory over him (Heb 2:14). |
