AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 1:9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose]. |
Bible Question:
Can a person push God too far? Can a person " fall from grace" one too many times? Is there ever a cut-off point with God? Doesn't He ever get tired of the " I know it's been a while, Lord" prayer..that one or two sins that you just can't seem to get a handle on..no matter how many years you struggle with it? I know that God always forgives the truly repentant..and I know that repentance is when you ask forgiveness and then make a change in your life.. But what if the change only lasts so long..? Can a person who truly belives in and cherishes God push Him too far? |
Bible Answer: When you fall from Grace, you don't care any more what the consequences of sin are; you are insensitive. As long as you have breath within you God is willing to forgive you. It is when we tolerate the little foxes in our lives, we ignore the entreaty of the Holy Spirit, that we begin to have callus hearts toward God and will come under judgment. Isaiah 6:8-10 Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on listening, but do not perceive; Keep on looking, but do not understand.’ “Render the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes dim, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.” And a great exhortation in Hebrews 12 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin; 5and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, “MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.” If you have a child, your heart would be tender towards them and it would take a diabolical unrepentant heart of stone before you would disown them. God is much greater in mercy than we can imagine. |
