NASB | 2 Peter 2:19 promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Peter 2:19 They promise them liberty, when they themselves are the slaves of depravity--for by whatever anyone is defeated and overcome, to that [person, thing, philosophy, or concept] he is continually enslaved. |
Subject: Can a slave desire to be free? |
Bible Note: They will not express any desire to be free, because they think that they are free. As is the case with all verses of Scripture these must be read in their context, the final destiny of the persons spoken of in v 19, is found in v 17. These people are False Prophets, and False Teachers, they may think that they are the real thing, but clearly they are not, they will be told "I never knew you". What I do not understand is why you asked this question in the first place, please enlighten me. Yours because I am His. Edwin. |
