NASB | 2 Peter 1:3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Peter 1:3 For His divine power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. |
Bible Question:
The NASB for 2 Peter 1:3, and 8 speak of the true knowledge of Him. The Amplified speaks of the full, personal knowledge of Him. The NKJ and KJ talks of "the knowledge". The Interlinear Greek copies that I have speak of the "full knowledge" of Him for 2 Peter 1:3 as well as Colossians 1:11 where the NASB speaks of the "real" knowledge. Do you agree that the more accurate rendering would be the "full" knowledge? From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: Greetings Ray! I would certainly translate 'epignosis' as 'full knowledge' or 'complete knowledge'. The 'epi' at the beginning definitely gives it the sense of a more complete or thorough knowledge. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
