Bible Note: "It seems odd, that certain men who talk so much of what the Holy Spirit reveals to themselves, should think so little of what he has revealed to others" Great Quote! Great defense for commentaries. However we must consider that if you go into a library and walk over to the commentary section, approx half the commentaries will be in direct conflict with the other half. And if you picked 10 commentaries at random you would have a strong likelihood of each of them contradicting each of the others of the group on at least one important issue of doctrine or theology. So is it a despise for commentaries or the realization that everyone has an opinion and commentaries are nothing more than the written opinion of a man or like minded people? |
