Bible Answer: Charis ... When we are not self-controlled and alert. That is we lose our focus on the Shepherd and His plan for us. Verse 9 says we need to resist him (and if we submit ourselves to God, the devil will flee (Jas 4:7). We can be devoured by the devil, when we are - loyal to a man (1 Cor. 1:10-17). This is includes a church or demonination. - prideful (Gal. 5:25-26). - debating minor issues (2 Tim. 2:14-16,23-24). Like did Adam have a belly button. Plus, issues that can divide, like what songs to sing and when Christ will return in relation to the tribulation. - living unworthy lives (Eph 4:1ff). Some are: a. Lying (4:25). b. Anger (4:26). c. Unwholesome speech (4:29). d. Lack of kindness/forgiveness (4:32). e. Sexual immorality (5:3). f. Drunkenness (5:18). g. Lousy marriages (5:22-33). h. Disobedience to parents (6:1-3). i. Overbearing parents (6:4). j. Disobedience to bosses (6:5-8). k. Threatening employees (6:9) We need to know the truth, so that we are not tossed around (Eph 4:16).
