AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:7 ¶ In the same way, you husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way [with great gentleness and tact, and with an intelligent regard for the marriage relationship], as with someone physically weaker, since she is a woman. Show her honor and respect as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered or ineffective. |
Bible Question: What does honor mean to you? I am wanting to find new and exciting ways to honor my wife |
Bible Answer: Hi xmikx, Welcome my friend! I know God will continue to bring you closer, and He will rejoice in your victory thru Him over these present trials. Honor refers to esteem and value. Think of your most prized possession, your all time favorite movie, your favorite food, your retirement nest egg, anything you value in your life. Give her more. More time, more attention, more thought, more care. I could tell you about how I do this with my wife, but each of us are different. What I can tell you is that our marraige was not what God wanted it to be until I gave myself completely. The benefit to her was that if there is a sacrifice to be made, I make it, not her. If there is something better to be had, she gets it, not me. She is served first. I fight her battles for her, when I can. I devote myself to her to do everything within my power to promote her spiritual growth. I don't have a "new and exciting way" to offer, but I can say that following the biblical model of marraige will position you and she to receive the blessing God has for you. Treating her as you want Jesus to treat you (forgiving, providing, interceding, loving) will lead to the new way you are looking for. Interceding - I cannot overstate our responsibility as husbands to pray for our wives. Peter also calls her the weaker vessel - be strong for her, in prayer, in the word and teaching, as the man of God who leads your home. God bless you and keep you! Love in Christ, Mark |
