NASB | 1 Peter 3:7 ¶ You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:7 ¶ In the same way, you husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way [with great gentleness and tact, and with an intelligent regard for the marriage relationship], as with someone physically weaker, since she is a woman. Show her honor and respect as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered or ineffective. |
Bible Question: What does it mean to dwell with your wife with understanding? (Note this question is not about election or works or divorce or Peter's mother-in-law. In your answer(s), please stick to the question as it is stated. Thank you.) |
Bible Answer: In my opinion, Peter is just telling the husband and wife to live a loving and faithful life. Specifically, he's telling the husband that the wife (keep in mind the time period this was written and how women were generally treated) is not as versed in the ways of the world and of God (at least publically), and she is not able to "bring home the bacon" like the husband is, but the husband should be understanding and realize that she is equal to the husband when it comes to the grace of life. |
