Subject: This is an example of a "theophany". |
Bible Note: Greetings believer57! The word "theophany" comes from two Greek words: 'theos', meaning "God", and 'phaino', meaning "to appear." A theophany is an appearance or manifestation of God, usually in a visible form. I, like you, believe that certain occurrences of theophany in the OT (an excellent example where you have already cited in Joshua 5:13-15) were actually preincarnate appearances of Christ! The Angel of the Lord is the principal theophany in the Old Testament, and it directly correlates with what we know as the Trinity in the New Testament! Blessings to you, Makarios |
