Bible Question:
Hi there, What sort of flower, exactly, is the Rose of Sharon that's talked about in the Song of Solomon? I know it wasn't a rose as we know it, and I've heard it was actually an autumn crocus or meadow-saffron, from the lily family. I'd love to know for sure, and to find a picture of it. Anyone know for certain? Oh, and the Rose of Sharon, when interpreted symbolically, represents us (the Bride) not Jesus, right? Thanks! Vicki77 |
Bible Answer: Sharon is a plain to the West of Jerusalem that extends to the Mediterean Sea. The actual rose flower is, I think, a Damascus Rose which is a very bright white in color. Perhaps this is symbolicly connecting the beauty of Christ in His holiness. I can't find the passage that speaks to the beauty of God's holiness (sorry, I've got to get to church... perhaps someone else can find it). Lasharon in Josh 12:18 refers to this plain. |
