AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God--it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]. |
Bible Question: My Pastor taught in the morning service that as Belivers we are told to "confess our sins not to ask for forgiveness." Something in my spiritual heart remembered that in the Lords example prayer, Jesus said " forgive us our debts (sins) as we forgive those who have trepessed (sinned) against us." I looked in VINES EXPOSITORY DICTONARY OF THE NEW TESTAMENT ant the word Jesus for FORGIVE (APHIEMI)is a verb and means " the remission of punishment due to sinful conduct". Matt.6:12. The word in 1 John 1:9 is not the same. I am sure our Father sees the intent and not the exact words, because for more than 56 years of my life I have sought forgivness of my sins. I wonder if confession and asking forgivness is not a process? One must admit to something to seek forgivness is what I have assumes all my Born again days. AMY COMMENTS? |
Bible Answer: farout, It seems to me that by confessing our sins we are implicitly asking for forgiveness. What other purpose is there for confessing them? James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Luke 18:9-14 10: Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11: The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, "God, I thank thee that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12: I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get." 13: But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, "God, be merciful to me a sinner!" 14: I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.
