AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 4:3 You ask [God for something] and do not receive it, because you ask with wrong motives [out of selfishness or with an unrighteous agenda], so that [when you get what you want] you may spend it on your [hedonistic] desires. |
Bible Question: Can anyone tell me if this is merely a statement or if there is Scripture to support it? "God is more concerned with our character than our comfort." Thank You for your time. |
Bible Answer: Dear Heidi, One other thought: When the Scripture uses the word comfort, it isn't using the term the way we usually use it. In the old days they used to call the hospital that traveled with an army a "comfort station." We sometimes still talk about "giving comfort and aid to the enemy." In those uses of the word -- and the use of it Scripturally -- we actually mean consolation and relief. Think in terms of relieving the pain of a wound. Comfort is extended to those who are hurting through no fault of their own (1 Peter 4:15-17). We never want to mitigate the suffering of people for wrong doing, or minimizing rebuke for foolishness, or alleviating the sting of correction. Sometimes we show the most love to people by not interfering with the learning process! In Him, Doc |
