Bible Question (short): Some questions from a graduate |
Question (full): Questions about how others come to convictions, and what about Paul letters to churches ( should we study them at all? )? Hello my fellow brothers and Christians in Christ, I just graduated from school a few years ago and find that I have more then enough time that I choose to read up on scripture to find out what the gospel REALLY has to say. A few months ago I began to read the letters that Paul wrote to the churches in first and second Corinthians, I find out that he is actually correcting churches through his letters. The question that I have now is should we try to apply what he has written to our own lives? Woman keep silence in churches Chor1 14:34 When you come together, each one of you has a psalm.. Chor1 14:26 are some of the examples I find that other churches / Christians seem to follow some of the guidelines but the rest to dismiss saying that "That was for back then" or "The culture was different, so it shouldn’t be for today". Should we even read the Corinthians ? Now, I am stuck in the middle about weather Christians should entertain thoughts that are not necessarily considered holy, examples PG rated moves that may have violence or cuss words or even movies that call evil good and good evil, PC games like world of warcraft or second life or half life… I know this is the world which we live in and impossible to not come across content of this nature. Jesus said "Go out into the world and preach the gospel" but if we aint’ or can’t be preachn’ to what we see, should we be watching it? I have been told that we should just embrace it and don’t shy away from what we will most come across anyways, but is this what Jesus would do? Is there a straight answer to the above Q's, or is it just what the Holy Spirit tells us to do? I was delighted to come across these forums to hopefully get some scriptural opinions. Thanks and I hope Im not asking to many questions. |
