Bible Question:
In the Book of James, James mentions how a little fire sets on fire a great forest. How would James have known about forest fires? Are there areas of large forests in Israel? |
Bible Answer: dweaver Remember Israel was once the land of milk and honey. the climate of Israel changed radically letting the land become drier. Interestingly the weather patterns now being observed show an increasing amount of moisture. Possibly in preparation of fulfillment of the prophecy of a rose blooming in the desert. Also note how many sieges and wars took place in Israel each one used vital wood. Beginning with the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem and continuing through 70 AD every major battle consisted of major sieges, there had to be forests to support that. We are told upon the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans in 70 AD crosses could be seen in all directions for nearly as far as the eye can see. That had to take a lot of trees. Then Rome salted most of the earth around Jerusalem and many other places through out Israel. So when we look at pictures of Israel today we have to remember what we are seeing is not the nation it was 2000 years ago and certainly not what it was when God lead the Children of Israel to the land of milk and honey, where one cluster of grapes required two men with a pole between them to carry it.
