Bible Question:
What a great little string! I've clipped the whole shebang and kept it for my notes. Great going, guys. On another topic: I've followed some predestianrian stuff from another string. I wonder: Since God is outside of time and knows the beginning to the end and back, it can appear that all has been predetermined and that we've been chosen to believe rather than having chosen to believe. Yet: Doesn't predestinarianism violate our free will? Doesn't our freedom to choose Him give our love for Him it's superb value? If so, doesn't predestinarianism violate His love? Does God's already knowing our choice mean we haven't freely chosen? Colin. |
Bible Answer: Colin Read the Old Testament is one story after another of men and women that choose to follow God, and the tragic results in the lives of those that didn’t. Now there are those that say that has all changed we are predestined. However that teaching invalidates the faith hall of fame seen in Hebrews 11 where God names those that had faith to faithfully follow him. Instead they want us to view this list as a group of people that had no other choice than to follow God. Predestination was the invention of men in a desperate search to embarrass Rome. They picked up on a word and ran with it thus trying to disprove Rome’s previous teaching. Their plan was if we can punch holes in Rome’s doctrine they could then wrest control out of Rome’s hands. It wasn’t until nearly 100 years later that many good and righteous men saw the path this was leading and tried to set the record straight. Unfortunately the balance of power had already shifted and instead of being able to correct this wrong, they were silenced. Many be being hung or burnt by these good and righteous predistinationalist. However as man has been able to read the Bible for himself he can clearly see God sent his Son for whosoever would believe, not just the chosen few. That God desires none to perish not just the one He had chosen. The God wills all men should be saved not just those he picked. Christ died for the sins of the World not just for the world according to Calvin. EdB |
